"Only when you truly inhabit your body can you begin the healing journey."

Mindfulness is the aware, balanced acceptance of the present experience.  It isn't more complicated than that.  It is open to receiving the present moment, pleasant or unpleasant just as it is, without either clinging to it or rejecting it.
~Sylvia Boorstein

How is mind-body psychotherapy different than traditional psychotherapy
?

Traditional psychotherapy or talk therapy emphasizes how you think. Mind body techniques recognize that every thought has a reaction in the body and this needs to be felt, understood, and processed.

What is Emotional Freedom Technique?

EFT is a safe and non-invasive "energy therapy."  By gently tapping on specific points on the face and body such as the eyebrow, side of eye, under the nose, collar bone, under the arm, top of the head, and on  ankles, people experience quick relief. It is easy for people to use in and outside the office and can be used in conjunction with medical treatments.

What makes EFT beneficial?

Trauma, anxiety or stuck emotions subside very quickly with EFT. For complex trauma you may need to tap on a series of specific emotions related to the trauma.  Years of therapy maybe reduced to months using EFT. It can also be used to reduce or eliminate flashbacks, heart racing, shortness of breath, sweaty palms, cravings, negative thoughts, shame, and fear.

What is mindfulness?

When one concentrates on a focal point such as the in and out flow of the breath, and this is done without agenda or judgment, one experiences mindfulness.

How is mindfulness beneficial?

Mindfulness teaches us how to experience calmness even if the world around us is in chaos. The part of our nervous systems that is responsible for giving us a sense of calm or relief is reached during mindfulness. It changes both brain and body chemistry. Research also indicates that mindfulness increases mental flexibility, helps us to be in touch with intuition, empathy, and strengthens the immune system.

How is emotional empathy helpful in mind-body psychotherapy?

Emotional empathy or "attunement" is the experience of feeling seen, heard, and understood.  When we are "attuned to", we relax and know that someone else "gets us" and we are not alone.  This is a powerful part of therapy.
